Kenilworth Show, Rodeo & Woodchop turns 90
90 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW BRINGS OLD KENILWORTH FRIENDS TOGETHER AND OFFERS PLENTY FOR THE FAMILY
The Kenilworth Show and Rodeo has a fine tradition of providing great entertainment for the whole family and this year will be no exception. It will be run on the first Saturday of Queensland’s school holidays (19th September) and precedes a week of celebrations, so bring the family for a mixture of action, education, competitions, and local arts and crafts.
Our theme this year is “Then & Now” featuring a photographic competition comparing the Kenilworth district from at least 50 years ago with that of today. There’ll be plenty of old photos with their new counterparts.
Starting at 10am and running until around 4pm, there are 10 woodchop events in all. Following the mid afternoon veteran event featuring Vic Summers, we have a special 16 inch Standing Block Relay for 2 axemen. This endurance event at days end always attracts the crowds.
In the ever popular Show Jumping ring events starting at 8am, we have many current and future stars competing in a full day’s program of 5 events. The Kenilworth Show is an unique opportunity for up and coming stars to mix with World Cup calibre riders and get hints and tips from real professionals.
In the pavilion, we have special themes in the cookery, photography, and textile handicraft sections. Also see flora, horticulture, and junior displays.
Over in the main ring, we have the show horses kicking off at 8:30am. Kenilworth’s Pony Club is strong and fields many competitors in a wide range of events. Stock Horse, Thoroughbreds, Hacks, Arabian, Quarter Horse, Galloways, Warmbloods, Colorama, miniatures and ponies, with plenty of junior and novelty events.
The purpose built rodeo ring will feature the NRA maximum points All Round Championship Rodeo with extra prize money this year for the open and junior bull ride events. Bronc rides, steer wrestling, and roping events round out a full days rodeo action that starts at 9:30am.
Sideshow alley, face painting, puppet shows, Old McDonalds Farm, Magicians, and show bags should give the young ones plenty to keep them occupied in a safe small country town environment.
Stick around for the great display put on by KC’s Fireworks that start at 7pm. For those that need to stay over, camping is free on the grounds after the show has finished.
Add nearby attractions like our famous Cheese Factory, spectacular Charley Morland camping grounds, and a wonderful small supporting township, and you have all you need for a great family weekend. So bring the kids, bring the grandparents, and have a great time with one of the friendliest towns in our Sunshine Coast region.
All the proceeds go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the hall, show and recreation grounds which are totally owned by, and operated with the generosity of, the community of Kenilworth.
